Plants and their flowers in skincare

Plants and/or their flowers have a long history in skincare and beauty products.  From time immemorial, herbs and plants have been used extensively to heal and care for the skin.  We've selected just 4 to look at briefly for their outstanding benefits.Calendula is also known as Marigold. It has been used to treat cuts, scrapes, bruises and burns and to sooth eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis as well as minor infections of the skin due to its antibacterial, anti-viral and immunostimulant properties which increases collagen production. Calendula oil can significantly boost the appearance of your skin by affecting blood flow to the skin cells, providing antioxidant protection to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and ages spots, and even the visibility of scars.

Chamomile has many powerful skin properties such as anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiseptic and contains essential oils and antioxidants. Additionally, is a hypoallergenic and helps to reduce skin irritants by neutralizing free radicals.  In skin care preparations it is used for rashes, inflammations, dermatitis, eczema, cuts and wounds.

Lavender is credited with being anti-allergenic, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antibacterial, antispasmodic, balancing, energising, soothing, healing, toning and stimulating. It is one of the only essential oils that aromatherapists recommend can be used neat on your skin to treat minor burns and wounds. It works well on all skin types and is effective in treating oily skin as well as acne, dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis.  Lavender is thought to stimulate cellular growth and regeneration of the skin by helping the upper layer rejuvenate itself.

Rose - Many beauty products contain either rose water, rose distillate, rose essential oil or rosehip seed oil to help rejuvenate and revitalise skin. Natural antibacterial rose essential oil can help treat acne and acne-prone skin, reduce swollen spots or redness and its calming properties can also help sooth rosecea and eczema.  Roses contain high amounts of vitamin C, a powerful antioxidant which can help protect skin cells from damage during prolonged exposure to the sun.  The natural oils found in roses help lock moisture into the skin, keeping skin feeling smooth.

Juddarnje Skincare believes in the benefits these flowers can bring when you use our creams and lotions. We incorporate all of these flower extracts because nature is a skincare shop in itself.  Availing ourselves of what is there in our backyard or across the fence in the bush means we let nature nurture our skin -  caring for our skin in the best possible way.  Let us take care of your skin too
